Official Vermont septic, well and wastewater resources

A verified directory of the state, regional and health sources behind this site's guidance.

Reading the town well-test summaries

The town summaries draw on tests reported to Vermont Health; the linked dataset supplies the sample counts. They are not a random survey of every well, and repeated samples can come from the same source.

A result of zero percent above a benchmark does not establish that an untested property has safe water. Use the property’s laboratory results to choose treatment and follow the Health Department’s private-water guidance.

Use the responsible authority for the current rules, contacts and figures. Each link opens on the issuing organization’s own website. The regional permitting offices are listed below them.
